Hello from Lafayette

Post by DHKnecht »

Greetings All:

I'm currently working on a Death Trooper build. I have printed all the pieces of the armor from the designer who's files are used to make all the suits for sale by the best vendors. I'm in the process now of sanding and finishing everything, while awaiting the complex undersuit to be shipped from the Phillipines (when their shipping opens back up from the Corona shutdown). I'll eventually work on the Heavy Weapons Specialist, but my first priority is to just be approved. I look forward to meeting everyone once everything gets somewhat back to normal. I'd also like to give thanks to Dewka, who messaged me on the SpecOps forums and said hello. Thanks for the help and advice.

Thanks Shane ... I'm originally from New Orleans, though I'm not a Katrina transplant. I look forward to seeing and meeting everyone here when things return to somewhat normal.

Thanks Dewka. Having a few snags as of late. Issues with painting, sanding, repainting, resanding, repainting ... just not having it perfect like I would like. On top of that, I'm only working on the small bits, too, until I get a proper process down that works. Add to that the fact that I assembled and strapped the shins, to maybe find out they are too snug and I can't walk well in them with the proper boots on. I don't know, maybe some trimming will save me from a total reprint of the shins. In any event, my undersuit should be in sometime late this week or next, so that will help get the fire going again. Now back to sanding and more bondo ...

I totally understand. It can be frustrating to try to get rid of pinholes and valleys. Plus primers and fillers shrink.
Then the undersuit changes the way things fit vs going over coveralls or street clothes.

Well, as I posed on my WIP thread on the specops forums, I had something to wear on Halloween to walk with my grandson, but it was only about 95% complete. I was feverishly working to get it done, and stayed up 38 straight hours working, but still had to leave off some minor details (like the sniper plate on the right thigh, the plastic boxes on the belt, and the small boxes on the left thigh), and accidentally left off some major details (like the buckle for the belt and the vent tubes for the helmet). The fit also wasn't that great, so I'm working on fixing things now. Here's the pic of me and the grandson that evening (I had already taken the gloves and forearms off, as there were fit issues there, such that I couldn't bend my arms right). All said and done, though, I should have everything ready for approval in a few weeks.

Wow you have a lot done. Issues like you have get worked out by your trial process. Your outing was a great test of how it works. Can you shim any of the parts open as needed or will it require reprinting?
