TX 3758 checking in

Post by crazas »

Hi everyone
I am Luis Carazo TX 3758 from Costa Rica, have been a member of the Legion since 2007.
I'll be travaleing to New Orleans with my 21 years old daugther next July (we'll be there from the 19th until the 25th) and I want to know if you have any suggestion about what to do and where to go (and what we should not do or places we should avoid)
Iconic places we should not miss and, if you guys are going to be trooping I'll love to have some pics with you and trade cards, coins and patches (not really sure if I still have coins!! LOL)

And a couple more question:
Any suggestions in hotels?
Do I need to rent a car or is everything within walking distance?
Thank you in advance!

Luis

Hey Luis!

Great news to hear you are coming to New Orleans. There are many things for you to see and do, depending on your likes. We would gladly love to set up one evening to have dinner with you and your daughter and do some swag exchange.

Regarding the car rental, that depends on where you are staying. If you are staying in the city close to the French Quarter, you will not need a car so much as most it you can get to by foot.

Some of our great attractions you may like to visit in and around the french quarter,

The Aquarium of the Americas, http://www.auduboninstitute.org/aquarium

The World War 2 museum, http://nationalww2museum.org/

Jackson Square, make sure you stop at the Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand and get some beignets and coffee. In the square is also the Pontable Cafe, managed by one of our members during the the day, Eric Gardner, he is always up for some swag trade. You can grab lunch there and introduce yourself.

You can take a ride on the historic steamboat Natchez. http://www.steamboatnatchez.com/general_info.html

You can take the free ferry across the river to Mardi Gras World for a tour. http://www.mardigrasworld.com/tours/tickets/

The French Quarter is a beautiful place to walk around during the day.

Here is a link you can check out http://www.neworleansonline.com/neworle ... hings.html

On the safety side I would not recommend walking any of the cemeteries without a tour group or any of the side streets in the quarter after dark. Stay on the main streets busy streets.

Thanx Gary
Will follow your "tourist guide".
I think will be staying as near as possible to the center of the city (btw is the French Quarter in the center of the city?)
Any suggestion for hotel?

P.S. A swag dinner looks like a great idea!!!

Welcome Luis

i would love to be able to make it down to New Orleans to meet you and your daugther, and trade some stuff!

There are many things to do in the city, and if you get adventurous and want to rent a car for the day, there are awesome plantation tours, the Tabasco hot sauce factory tour, brewery tours, and so many more things to do within easy driving distance of New Orleans.

We'll definitely have to work in dinner with you guys!

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is not far from the World War II Museum. You can also take a river cruise from the Aquarium to the Audubon Zoo.

That's a good location. The Quarter, Aquarium, and Riverwalk will be very accessible, as is the WWII Museum. Plus you're right on St. Charles Avenue, so streetcar lines are nearby. You should definitely travel up and down St. Charles, so that you can check out one of our Mardi Gras parade routes :)

What time do you arrive on the 19th? I unfortunately leave for Texas on the 20th, but I hope to be able to meet you.
