Active Duty Military and NEW to the area!

Good evening! My wife and I are HUGE lifetime Star war fans, but new to costuming. I'm currently a Active Duty Navy Chief and we do a lot of community service. The wife and I would love to combine our passion for Star Wars and love for giving back to the community. As we're both very "crafty", we'd also love to learn the art of costuming and are willing to invest the time and money into the hobby. We're also very interested in participating in the New Orlean's Krewe of Chewbacchus parade. Are there any local members or meetings in the Shreveport/Bossier area? Richard

Welcome, Richard.
We are happy to have you. We are happy to help you with a costume and join.
Our reach has really made it to Shreveport. I believe we have a trooper named Shane in Monroe. Zadok lives in Natchitoches. That is kind of close.
We actually have a con in February that troopers will be attending up there.
Do you have any idea of which costumes you and your wife might want to make?

Welcome to the boards Richard
Reela and myself are here in Lafayette.
we have many events in the New Orleans area coming up. Notably the Mardi Gras parades as you mentioned the Krew of Chewbacchus and others during the cooler weather,WHEW!
My favorite is the Children's hospital parade inside the Oschner hospital and Boo at The Zoo. AWESOME events!
We are getting more events in the Lafayette area so keep an eye open for events and other happenings. Also there will be armour parties "Rebels and Imperial" between Lafayette and New Orleans!
events slow down during the summer because kids are out of school and families take vacations!
well hope to see you soon

welcome to the forums Chief! We have a LOT of costume options to choose from, and you can find them all listed on the 501st homepage under 501st.com / costuming / costume resource library. Each costume has a guide, the CRL , that is the minimum specification for that costume. Each costume also has an assigned Detachment , which is the costume specialist forum.

There are a LOT of resources out there to get people going.

Welcome to our forums!!! There are a few troopers in the north Louisiana area, 1 in Shreveport, 1 in Alexandra, soon to be 2, and 1 in Monroe. There are no regular meetings. Our trooping events are our get togethers, as we usually grab a bite to eat after the events.

There are several talented costume and prop builders in our garrison. Please feel free to any any questions.
